Gardeners Outlet is Returning for Spring
2021

2021

I wanted to provide an update to everyone about our progress, and plans at our Garden Center. If you have driven by lately, you have no doubt seen that there is progress being made. Yes, we are rebuilding the garden center, and yes, we plan on having it up and running by this Spring, provided we don't have anymore setbacks. It seems every time we think we can see the end in sight, something else happens that sets us back again. What we believed would take about 6 months to complete, is now going on 10 months, and we are still rebuilding. Right now, our tentative plans are to have a grand re-opening on the Saturday after Easter, April 10th. That is provided we have no more setbacks, or storms of the century. While we still won't be back at 100 percent, we feel we will be close to 80 to 90 percent complete of where we are trying to get too. Hopefully, everyone will appreciate all the new additions we have added, while still keeping with our basic concept and layout of the greenhouses. While we hope to be open on April 10th, please check back as that date gets closer to get any updates, or changes that might have to be made. I can't thank everyone enough for all the encouraging messages I have gotten over the past few months from those friends that have driven by and seen the progress being made on everything. They have kept us all driven to work our best to get everything completed in time for the Spring season. I also can't even begin to find a way to thank Richard Jackson, James Majors, and Stephen Smith for all the help and time they have put in to help me get the Garden Center back up and running. Without their help, I could never have accomplished what we have accomplished in the short amount of time as well as their support when we kept having setbacks that added more problems for us to solve and fix. It has definitely been a team effort. Some of the things we have done to make shopping easier is we have levelled the floors and we have enlarged our checkout area. We also built brand new benches that we believe will make shopping easier, along with some added fans to circulate the airflow inside the greenhouses which should make shopping a little cooler, and more enjoyable. We are also in the process of adding a concrete sidewalk across the front of the building, as well as an enlarged parking area. We also will have overflow parking in the rear of the building. If you came to our fire sale, you have already experienced parking in the rear of the property. This should make those busy Saturdays a little easier to navigate with all the added parking areas. along with our rebuilding efforts, we are also planting fast and furious to get everything ready to go as the Spring temps start warming up. We have always taken pride in the fact we grow so much of out own product, and that aspect has not changed, we just may not have everything we have had in the past this first year, since we weren't able to start growing as early as we normally do because of the fire rebuilding, but hopefully we will not be missing much. We have even expanded our geranium numbers for both the regular zonal geraniums, and the high in demand Regal Geraniums. This year we have added more Regal colors than ever before, along with greater numbers, so hopefully we won't run out so quickly like we did last year. We are looking forward to seeing everyone again when we re-open, we just ask that you have patience as we try to get everything ready in time for the coming season. As April 10th approaches, please check back to make sure nothing has changed. We are excited to finally be able to let everyone know we are so close to being back up and running. We hope this will be a great year for everyone as we all get back to enjoying warmer temps and playing in the dirt.

Gardener’s Outlet has all the plants you need for a fall blooming garden

Fall 2019

Pansies, Kale, Cabbage ,when you walk in the door at Gardener’s Outlet, that is what you see: bench after bench full of ornamental Kale, Cabbage, Pansies, Mums, and Violas, all grown right there on the premises. Now that fall seems to be finally here, you can find all your fall plants at Gardener’s Outlet. Manager Bryan Ragland says he has both white and purple ornamental Kale and Cabbage in a variety of sizes from 1-gallon pots down to 4 ½ -inch pots, and prices to meet anyone’s budget. The 1-gallon Cabbage and Kale will measure on average from 12 to 14 inches across when fully grown, with some even larger. These plants are just starting to color with the recent cooler weather. They also have a new variety of ornamental Kale called “Feather leaf” in both white and purple as well. This new Kale looks like a very large spider web, a very unique structure. They grew a limited number of these, so if you want something different this year, come check them out. Gardener’s Outlet also has Pansies and Violas in a variety of colors and varieties – from solid colors to the Majestic Giant varieties that look like they have a face on them. Now that the weather has finally cooled down a little, all Gardener’s Outlet’s fall plants can be planted just about anywhere outside they can get at least a half day of sunlight or more.

Bryan says Pansies, Kale, Cabbage, and Violas also do well planted in pots as long as the pots are large enough. Since soil in a pot gets colder than the ground, the pot needs to be large enough to be able to insulate the roots from the cool night temperatures as winter temperatures start dropping. Usually a pot that is 14 inches or more across the top, and at least one foot deep will let fall plants survive here through the winter. If you have never tried planting ornamental Kale or Cabbage, Bryan recommends giving them a try. As the temperatures start to drop, the centers of the Kale and Cabbage will start to color either white or dark purple, depending on the variety. He says they are a great accent with Pansies and Violas. Bryan also has variety of colors of Mums, as well as a few assorted mix pots of Kale, Cabbage, and Violas and Pansies. So, if you have never been out to Gardener’s Outlet, Bryan hopes you come visit and see what Gardener’s Outlet has to offer. Bryan also wants everyone to know he still has a good selection of perennials, trees and shrubs that are discounted 20 percent off his already low prices through the end of November. He says that fall is actually the best time of year to plant perennials, trees and shrubs since the ground is still warm, and they will have time to root well before it gets cold. When spring comes, they will be rooted and ready to start growing right away when the temperatures start to rise. Bryan also wants to remind everyone that his pottery is also discounted 20 percent until Thanksgiving. If you need a new pot for your porch, or maybe a nice Christmas gift for someone, he hopes you come and see all the different varieties of pottery as well.

If you have never visited Gardener’s Outlet, Bryan hopes you will come visit him, and see all the homegrown fall plants Gardener’s Outlet has to offer, as well as his selection of perennials. Gardener’s Outlet is open 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. They are closed on Sundays. They are located at 1805 North Frankford Ave., about 1 ½ miles north of Walmart on 4th Street and Frankford Avenue. Spring 2019

Spring 2019

Gardener’s Outlet takes stress out of growing plants in West Texas
In the flat and unflattering bareness of West Texas terrain, a local gardener is growing everything you need to transform your garden into a colorful oasis this spring. Gardener’s Outlet, located in Northwest Lubbock, has everything from vegetables, herbs, trees, shrubs, roses, and houseplants — too many varieties of annuals and perennials. This home-produced garden center has everything for the professional gardener to those just starting with their first pots or flower beds.
“Homegrown and locally owned” is the key phrase when you think about Gardener’s Outlet. Almost all of the plants, about 90 percent, are grown there by manager Bryan Ragland.
“One of the benefits of purchasing plants that are homegrown, is they will last. The environment in West Texas is very unique,” he says. Plants that larger companies have shipped in may be pretty in the store but they are not guaranteed to last in this climate. Due to West Texas being an extremely arid climate, plants often go into shock when shipped from out of the area. This can cause plants to die quickly, if not taken care of properly. Bryan explains that you are supposed to let your plants adjust to the atmosphere prior to transplanting them.
This means you may have to wait up to a full week before transforming your garden. However, with Gardener’s Outlet you can decorate your garden that very same day.
Gardener’s Outlet is able to sell homegrown plants at a lower cost than other plants. “When we grow them in-house, not only do they last longer but they are easier on the bank account as well,” Bryan explains.
Because the plants are homegrown, locally, there is no mark-up cost due to shipping, and you know when your plants are ready to pick up. Bryan explains he even has people waiting for certain popular types of plants to be ready to plant in their gardens. Customers are so impressed with the quality of his products they would rather wait for his plants than go somewhere else.
Gardener’s Outlet offers herbs, vegetables, annuals, geraniums, perennials, houseplants, trees/shrubs and roses. They are one of only a few retailers in Lubbock that offers the regal geranium, (pictured), which is a hybrid geranium, with color variations on the petals. The petals are also significantly thinner and more delicate than a regular geranium, but just as durable. Gardener’s Outlet has them in nine different colors, along with many colors of the regular zonal geraniums. They also offer large geraniums in three-gallon pots that you can plant directly into a pot and have blooming flowers at your door, instantly.
They also carry a variety of different types of potting soil, and fertilizers, and they have added some organic potting soil, and fertilizers this year as well.
Gardener’s Outlet stands behind their products, and will guarantee any plant. Their plants are less likely to die than other companies’ plants, but even if your green thumb fails, Gardener’s Outlet will ensure you are satisfied.
Stop on by their location at 1805 N. Frankford Ave, Lubbock TX 79416, just 1.75 miles north of 4th Street, or give Bryan a call at (806) 744-5404 to see if he has what you are looking for. They are open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 2 to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Gardener’s Outlet will help you and your green thumb transform your garden this spring.

He says, “Even though violas have a smaller bloom than a pansy does, they show up just as well as a pansy does in the garden due to their abundance of blooms at any given time.” Bryan also has a variety of colors of mums as well, so if you have never been out to Gardener’s Outlet, come visit and see what Gardener’s Outlet has to offer.
Bryan also wanted everyone to know that he has a good selection of perennials, trees and shrubs that are discounted 25-percent off his already low prices thru the end of October. He says that fall is actually the best time of year to plant perennials, trees and shrubs since they will have time to root well before it gets cold. When spring comes, they will be rooted and ready to start growing right away when temperatures start to rise.
So if you have never paid a visit to Gardener’s Outlet, Bryan hopes you will come visit him, and see all the homegrown fall plants Gardener’s Outlet has to offer, as well as his selection of perennials.

Show mom your blossoming love

July 2018

This Mother’s Day, give her flowers that will continue to grow and blossom from Gardener’s Outlet

Mom has always kept flowers around: in the window sill, in the flower bed, in a vase. You can never have too many flowers, especially for decorating the yard and house. Mom has always meant a lot to you, so show her you care on Mother’s Day with flowers that will be a lasting reminder of your love. Stop giving the moms in your life flowers that quickly fade away. Whether you have been buying potted plants that never last long or cut flowers for a vase, stop wasting your money and buy flowers that are guaranteed to last from Gardener’s Outlet.

“Home grown, and locally owned” is the key phrase when you think about Gardener’s Outlet. Almost all of the plants, about 90 percent, are grown there by manager Bryan Ragland. “One of the benefits of purchasing plants that are home grown is they will last. The environment in West Texas is very unique,” he says. Plants that larger companies have shipped in may be pretty in the store but they are not guaranteed to last in this West Texas climate. Bryan explains what you are supposed to do is let your plant adjust to the atmosphere prior to transplanting it. However, with Gardener’s Outlet you can decorate your garden that very same day, and time is running short with Mother’s Day coming this Sunday.

Ready for Mother’s Day are newly created hanging baskets of flowers, custom planted by Bryan and his staff, and ready to hang for the mother you love. Baskets come in assorted varieties for full-sun, part-sun, and shaded areas. It’s a foolproof way to get flowers that will last no matter where you have space. All baskets are 10% off their regular price today, Saturday, and Sunday, so hurry in. If you’re not sure what mom would want, don’t risk it; just buy her a gift certificate from Gardener’s Outlet.

Baskets for part-sun include petunias, snapdragons, dianthuses, geraniums, alyssums, and a variety of other beautiful flowers to make a lovely arrangement for windows, or somewhere with only part of a day of sunlight. Baskets for shade include begonias, impatiens, lobelias, plus more for that front porch that’s always in the shade. Full-sun arrangements include vinca, gazania, marigolds, moss rose, purslane, and other plants that can survive the direct West Texas sun.

They also have baskets that have a mixture of many different plants in them for whatever your plant desires might be.

Gardener’s Outlet also offers herbs, annuals, perennials, trees and shrubs, roses, tomatoes, peppers, and much more that moms might want for their personal garden. Don’t miss their great selection of double petunias that look like carnations. Gardener’s Outlet is also one of the only retailers in Lubbock that offers the regal geranium, which is a hybrid geranium, with color variations on the petals. The petals are significantly thinner and more delicate than a regular geranium, but just as hardy. Pick up a large 3-gallon size of Geranium you can plant directly into a pot and have blooming flowers in an instant, waiting at mom’s door.

Gardener’s Outlet stands behind their products, and will guarantee any plant they sell. Their plants are less likely to die than other companies but even if your green thumb fails, Gardener’s Outlet will ensure you are satisfied. Stop by their location at 1805 N. Frankford Ave., Lubbock, TX 79416, or give Bryan a call at (806) 744-5404. Their hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and they are also open Sunday from 2 p.m. until 5:30 p.m., for those last-minute shoppers. You can also check them out on Facebook and their webpage at www.gardnersoutletlubbock.com. Gardener’s Outlet will help you pick the perfect gift that keeps giving for that special mother in your life. Gardener’s Outlet will also be offering free hot sausage wraps all day Saturday while you shop as their way of saying “thank you for shopping with them”
